After an early start, you’ll drive to the Marangu Gate, where you’ll complete park entry formalities and commence your hike. The trail leads you through the captivating rainforest, with its lush vegetation and diverse wildlife.
By the end of the day, you’ll arrive at Mandara Hut, nestled at an elevation of 2,700 meters, where you’ll spend your first night on the mountain.
Continuing your ascent, you leave the rainforest behind and transition into the heath and moorland zone. The landscape changes as you climb towards the Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters above sea level. This hut offers stunning views of the mountain and is your resting place for the night.
This is a crucial acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. You’ll hike to a higher elevation and then descend to sleep at Horombo Hut, a strategy that aids in acclimatization and prepares you for the challenging summit attempt.
Today, you’ll trek through the Alpine desert zone, making your way to Kibo Hut at the base of Kilimanjaro’s summit. It’s a demanding day that requires rest and preparation for the imminent summit bid.
The most anticipated day of your journey begins around midnight. You’ll start your ascent to the summit, Uhuru Peak, reaching it just as the sun rises. After relishing your accomplishment at the peak, you’ll begin your descent, first back to Kibo Hut and then further down to Horombo Hut.
Today marks your descent through the heath and rainforest zones, retracing your steps. The journey concludes at the Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificates and be transported back to your accommodation.
